Chomsky, Noam

Perhaps the most reknown linguist of the twentieth century. Co-author of The Sound Pattern of English (1968), among others.

Two or more consonants , or perhaps vowels, in a row.

See total assimilation .

A segment made up of at least two different oral articulator features. See also simple segment .

 

A binary feature indicating a consonant characteristics, lacking a specified articulator .

A sound that permits continuous airflow through the center of the oral tract.

A segment made up of a sequence of features, such as a contour tone .

A tone whose underlying representation has more than one tone.

 

Having to do with the front of the tongue. A node used in articulator-based feature theory.
